Who is CalicoCat?
who?
Travelling, cat and duck loving Artist based in Berlin.
My name is Claudia alias CalicoCat, which stands for the Guardian Angel which was on my side for many years, Sandy my lucky cat. Unfortunately she went over the rainbow bridge but I love it that she is still a part of my life.
Where?
I'm a professional tattoo artist since 2014. I was born and grew up in East Germany and it wasn't always easy at home. So I moved to Vienna when I was 18. I lived there for 9 years, studied there at first and I started tattooing then. I found back to art and back to myself.
Since 2017 I live and work in Berlin as a tattoo artist having my own business since 2021.
why NFT?
During pandemic 2020/2021 and a few lockdowns during this time we had to close the shop several times. So I was not allowed to work or have social contacts for months.
That was a pretty hard time for my life,
my mind and my soul.

When I was told about NFTs because of my Leek drawings and Mandalas as a new way to make and share my art, I was instantly exited about it after I did some research, but there was a lot of homework for me to do because at this point I didn't even know what a blockchain exactly was.
I entered the NFT space and saw all the amazing art and kindness that inspired me to start a new journey and step out of my art comfort zone.
birth of the duckies
I had the idea with the duckies in my mind because I was missing the sea and travelling through nature. I wanted to create something related to water and something which gives you a familiar feeling when you see it doesn't matter if young or old and also makes people smile in a simple way. I just needed a way to realize them.
January 2021 I started to teach myself 3D modeling with Nomad Sculpt on iPad Pro and learned textures, lights, animation, rendering skills with Blender.
Lockdown and tutorials were my best friends during this time. It wasn't always easy and was driving me crazy sometimes starting from zero with everything,
but here we are - RareDuckies were born and I'm a very proud Duckie mum now.
Next to the Duckies and tattoos I create 2D linework drawings which are inspired by my tattoo style and very personal artworks. They allow me to bring a feeling or experience in a picture that I can't put into words.
